Krishna at English => English (The Britannica Concise) Of Explained:

One of the most widely venerated Hindu gods, worshiped as the eighth incarnation of Vishnu and as the supreme deity. Many Krishna legends are drawn from the Mahabharata and the Puranas. A prophecy foretold that he would destroy the wicked king of Mathura, and to escape the king's wrath his parents had him smuggled to Gokula, where he was raised by a cowherd. As a child Krishna was beloved for his pranks; he also performed miracles and slew demons. As a youth he was famous as a lover. He returned to Mathura and killed the wicked king, then set up his court at Dvaraka, marrying the princess Rukmini and taking other wives as well. He was killed when a huntsman mistook him for a deer and shot him in the heel, his one vulnerable spot. In art Krishna is often depicted with blue-black skin, wearing a loincloth and a crown of peacock feathers. As a divine lover he is shown playing the flute surrounded by adoring females.
